Mare means sea, and vela means sails. All the experiences gained while growing up on boats with her father, a sailor, since the first experiences on a small Maestral rubber boat, through following her father's regattas and crossing the Atlantic Ocean, underwater experiences through diving and a long series of sailing tours and ventures with her husband, an experienced sailor, and their children, the founder of the brand decides to translate into a sustainable fashion brand where her love for the sea and the freedom that the sea represents for her will take on a new form. The rope that is used every day in sailing is applied in fashion, and soon the first products are created, among which are light and practical bags made of rope produced in Serbia, for which Mare•Vela is recognizable today. With the desire that this will not be just a fashion story, she hires local women to create unique items in order to support female entrepreneurship and community through environmental protection and raising awareness of the need to change our consumer habits.
